Salute to the troops

Fairgoers attending the Alameda County Fair, which concludes Sunday, have the opportunity to sign 4-foot-by-10-foot postcards in honor of those serving in the armed services in Iraq. The cards will be sent to the men and women currently on-duty. Fair hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. today and tomorrow. Downtown event benefits Valley Humane Society

Radio station 107.7 "The Bone" FM will broadcast live from noon to 6 p.m., July 15 at the Main Street Brewery, 830 Main St., where a live band will perform from 4-6 p.m. Beer is $1.07 a glass and all proceeds go to the Valley Humane Society. The Society is raising money for a new shelter.

Those who attend are asked to bring a can of food for the Food Bank. There will be prizes from a prize wheel. The Society's shelter on Spring St. will have prizes and face painting for the kids. Dogs, cats, kittens and puppies are ready for adoption. Bring a dog treat for the puppies and watch them smile.

Twenty Livermore Valley Wineries will be represented during the Fifth Annual Downtown Wine Stroll from 6-9 p.m., Thursday July 21.

On Main Street and throughout the downtown, 30 locations will be selling wine by the glass. The $20 price of admission includes a commemorative wine glass and event map. Tickets purchased the day of the event are $25.

Pre-stroll tickets are on sale at the Pleasanton Downtown Association office, 830-A Main St. and elsewhere. Call 484-2199 for more information on where tickets are being sold.
