Explosion results from hashish extraction
(June 10, 2005) An explosion in a Stoneridge Dr. apartment building resulted in one resident sustaining third and fourth degree burns on his arms and face, police said.
A device that uses flammable gas to extract hashish from marijuana was found in the apartment along with three indoor marijuana plants, police said. The device was being used in the washroom of the apartment and a water heater was also located in the room, police said. As gas from the device moved around the room, it may have come in contact with the water heater's flame and caused the explosion, police said.
Ethan King was injured in the explosion and limited damage was done to the room, according to police. King was taken by Life Flight to Santa Clara Medical Center Burn Unit, police said. Clarice Diaz was also present during the explosion, but sustained no injuries, police said.
King will be charged with various Health and Safety violations, including processing hashish and growing marijuana, according to police.
