Robbery suspect arrested

Sean Kurz, 28, was arrested on the morning of May 3 for robbing Holiday Cleaners, police said.

Kurz, a Pleasanton resident, claimed he had a gun and demanded money from the clerk before fleeing from the establishment with $60, police said.

Two residents on Weymouth Court spotted a man running down the street and acting suspiciously, so they called 911. Before police arrived, Kurz attempted to jump a fence into a yard and fell to the cement, hitting his head. He then fled into the playground of Fairlands Elementary School where police units spotted him and took him into custody, police said. The school was under lock down for 20 minutes when they received reports of the suspect on campus. The suspect did not contact any students or staff, police said.

The stolen money was recovered from the suspect at the time of the arrest and his gun was found to be a fake, police said.

Kurz also matched the description of a suspect accused of robbing an elderly woman outside of the First United Credit Union on Gibraltar Drive at 9 a.m. Police are following up with the victim to see if she can identify Kurz as the suspect. Enraged driver brandishes toy gun

Ryan Deugaw, 18, was booked into Santa Rita Jail April 29 for brandishing an airsoft pistol at a fellow driver in an incident of road rage, police said.

Deugaw pulled out the toy and waved it at the victim in a threatening manner on Valley Avenue after the victim tapped on her brakes to give distance from Deugaw who was tailgating her, police said. The victim thought Deugaw had pulled out a real gun. Police said the toy gun looked like a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol. Sobriety checkpoint

The police department will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint Thursday, May 5 between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., police said.

The checkpoint will be on an undisclosed roadway with established DUI problems. Representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will be at the checkpoint to assist and hand out information.

The sobriety checkpoint is designed to remind motorists that the police department will be out this week and weekend to arrest impaired motorists, police said. The key objective of the checkpoint is to educate the public about the dangers of driving under the influence and reduce the number of impaired drivers out on the road, police said.
