Earl William Simpson

Earl William Simpson, a Pleasanton resident for 41 years, died in Pleasanton on March 18 at the age of 88.

He was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He raised Appaloosa horses and is remembered for loving fishing and his dog.

He is survived by his wife of six years, Georgia Simpson; sons Roy Simpson of Carson City, Nev., and James Simpson of San Leandro; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 2, at Callaghan's Chapel, 3833 East Ave., Livermore. Robert Walter Meyer

Robert 'Bob' Walter Meyer, a Pleasanton resident for 68 years, died March 17 at the age of 80 after battling lung disease and pneumonia.

He was born in Bronson, Neb., on July 10, 1925. During his years in Pleasanton, he was very active in the community and held a variety of careers, including being a butcher at Meyer Meat Market and a custodian at Pleasanton Elementary School, just to name a few. His final career was a plumber and maintenance man for the Alameda County Fairgrounds before retiring in 1991.

He served as a volunteer fireman with the Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and was an active member of the Pleasanton Rotary and Lions Clubs. In the 1950s, he served as president for the Junior Chamber of Commerce and played drums in a three-piece local band. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and working with power tools. He frequently helped friends and neighbors with minor household repairs.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Robbie Ables Meyer; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and George Gorohoff of Vacaville; sister Martha Meyer Hodges of Arizona; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers and his son, Gary Paul Meyer, who was the first Pleasanton resident killed in the Vietnam War.

Marianne Martinelli, a Pleasanton resident for 10 years, died March 17 at the age of 65.

She was born Oct. 17, 1939, in San Francisco. She worked as a dental assistant for 10 years and was a former professional artist who was very gifted and enjoyed all types of art projects.

She was a parishioner at St. Augustine Catholic Church and was affiliated with the Preceptor Theta XI chapter of the non-academic sorority, Beta Sigma Phi.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Earl Martinelli of Pleasanton; son Nick Martinelli of Eugene, Ore.; brothers Jack Parker of Pleasanton and James Parker of Sunnyvale; sister Kathaleen O'Kawe of Las Vegas; sister-in-law Keville Parker; and brother-in-law Frank O'Kawe.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Fremont. Marjorie Glynn, 72, died in Pleasanton on March 20.

She was born Feb. 20, 1933, in San Francisco and grew up in Humbolt County before moving to Lucerne, Calif., where she resided for 35 years.

She was a homemaker for 24 years and remembered as a character to know. She was also known as the "Bell Lady" at Upper Lake High and was a parishioner at Sunrise Church of Lucerne.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Andrew Sekara of San Francisco; sons Jerry Pentin of Pleasanton and Marcell Gaud of Yuma, Ariz.; daughters Patricia Pentin of Spokane, Wash., Kathy Ridgeway of Mojave, KellyAnn Cantrell of Carefree, Ariz., and Michelle Barefoot of San Francisco; sisters Thelma Moore of Santa Rosa and Audrey Duck of Santa Rosa; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husbands Gerald Glynn and Frank Pentin; son Michael Conner; brother John Allen; and sisters Jean "Sissy" Allen, Ann Northrup, Helen Williams, Lita Barrineau and Elsie Gevas. Her son Michael was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was killed in the first Gulf War.

Frances Theresa Sequeira, 68, died in Pleasanton on March 23.

She was born Jan. 23, 1937, in Oakland and was a Livermore resident for 33 years. She graduated from Lani College. She worked at Helen's Blossom shop as a flower designer for many years and then as a billing clerk for Tri-Valley Door Systems for 10 years.

Her nickname was "Lucy" and she loved dancing and music. She was a parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah Sequeira of Manteca; son John Sequeira Manteca; mother Lena Hurturan of Livermore; brothers Manuel Fanfa of Pleasanton and Joseph Fanfa of Antioch; sisters Maryanna Ramos of Livermore and Loretta Maze of Carson City, Nev.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Stanley Sequeira; father Joseph Fanfa Sr.; daughter Janice Sequeira; and brother Anthony J. Fanfa.

A rosary was held at Callaghan Mortuary and a Mass was celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church with burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Livermore. Gordon Leroy Zehr

Gordon Leroy Zehr, 74, died in Pleasanton on March 25.

He was born March 28, 1930, in Indianapolis, Ind., and lived in Palo Alto for 48 years before spending his last eight in Pleasanton.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict before working as an auto parts manager. He was a member of the Driftwood Yacht Club in Antioch and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department.

He enjoyed flying, boating, playing Dominos and traveling. He loved to tinker and have get-togethers with many friends.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Mary Zehr of Pleasanton; daughters Jo Ann Gasaway of San Jose, Vicki Hoyt of Montana, Kim Bell of Pleasanton, and Tracy Jurich of Pleasanton; son-in-laws Hank Hoyt, Marty Bell and Paul Jurich; mother-in-law Josie Mills of Vancouver, Canada; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Ann Zehr and son Perry Gourgon.

A memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial at St. Augustine's Cemetery. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room, 675 23rd St., Oakland 94612.
