(March 18, 2005) Hotel theft angers salesman
A traveling salesman had his briefcase and its contents, valued at $800, stolen from his Ramada Inn hotel room in the 5300 block of Owens Court, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. the afternoon of March 9.
The victim, who was from Texas, said he left his hotel room about 1 p.m. while one of the hotel maids was cleaning his room. The victim said he believed she would close and lock the door when she left, police said.
The victim told police he returned to his room about 3 p.m. and found the door locked and no evidence of forced entry. The police report stated that after entering his room, the victim noticed his work briefcase had been taken from the desk near the door. The briefcase had contained a watch and $800.
The victim then contacted the hotel manager but was so angry, he was unable to speak to the manager, according to the police report.
The case has been forwarded to investigations.
Church music room robbed
Electronic equipment valued at $3,099 was taken from the music room of the Valley Community Church, 4455 Del Valle Parkway, sometime prior to Dec. 20.
Police responded March 8 to a call from the music technician of the church, stating he had noticed the items missing around Dec. 20. The music room has a backstage area with two desks, according to the police report, and the victim said a camcorder and digital camera were on one desk and a PDA (personal digital assistant) was on the other.
The victim said he did not know who took the items, and noted that the church rents the room out for non-church functions.
