Head-on collision Head-on collision (March 04, 2005)

Firefighters extricated four critically injured people after an accident at 2:58 p.m. Wednesday on Santa Rita Road near Rosewood Drive. A 2002 Mercedes SUV traveling southbound on Santa Rita Road crossed the raised center divider into oncoming northbound traffic, and crossed three northbound lanes before colliding head-on with a 1988 Toyota 4-Runner traveling north on Santa Rita Road. Both vehicles had two occupants and all were injured. One driver was flown by Cal Star helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek; the other three were taken by ambulance to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. The road was closed until approximately 4:45 p.m. due to the severity of the collision. Police ask any witnesses who can provide further information to call Officer Robert Leong at 931-5100.
