Zero the Hero, aka Principal Mike Kuhfal, appeared on the rooftop of Hearst Elementary School last Friday morning, while the 100 kindergartners - five classes in all - were celebrating the 100th day of school. "They've been counting since the first day of school," said teacher Cara Connolly. "Zero the Hero is a character we've learned all about, with songs and books and the kids doing different activities. Every 10th day he leaves a special treat." The biggest treat was his appearance in the kindergarten yard last week. The children were happy to celebrate the 100th day of school and didn't seem to mind that there were still 82 days of school to go.
