City getting appraisal on Vervais City getting appraisal on Vervais (February 18, 2005)

Council will discuss sale after determining value

The City Council decided to hire an appraiser to determine the value of the property at 4254 Vervais Ave., whose owners are having trouble selling because it is zoned commercial but designated parkland on the general and downtown specific plans. The City Council met in closed session Tuesday before its regular meeting to discuss the issue.

"After the appraisal is obtained, we will meet further with the council concerning this matter," City Attorney Michael Roush announced at the start of the open council meeting.

Twice last year, the council rejected offers for the city to buy the property. Owners Gary and Janice Duclair were asking the city to purchase the property for $788,000, an average of what potential buyers had offered until finding out they could not open a business at the location. -Dolores Fox Ciardelli
