(January 28, 2005) As the Pleasanton Weekly celebrates its 5th anniversary, even celebrities are getting in on the act It's been five years since the first issue of the Pleasanton Weekly was published Jan. 28, 2000, and one of our successful features is our readers' travel photos that prove they can't leave home without us. It all began when Police Chief Tim Neal visited New York City and his wife snapped a picture of him reading the Pleasanton Weekly with the Statue of Liberty in the background. We ran the picture July 19, 2000, and soon other readers were taking us along on their trips and sending in photos. We have now printed more than 500 photos and have another 100-plus waiting - and it is our mission to print each and every one! We were pleased to see that comedian Mike Myers of Saturday Night Live and Austin Powers fame was captured reading the Weekly in Hawaii. Other readers have taken us scuba diving and parasailing during the last year. Several families have taken us along when they went overseas to adopt children, and we especially appreciated Vicki Hubbard taking us to the hospital to read just hours after giving birth to Michael Rembrandt on Aug. 6. We have now been to 71 countries; during 2004 we added pins on the map in our lobby to Aruba, Senegal, Ecuador, Indonesia, Laos, Malta and South Africa. And we have now received photos from readers in 48 of the United States. Won't someone please Take Us Along to Mississippi and North Dakota? -Pleasanton Weekly staff
