The Tri-Valley Preschool Fair, a forum where parents can meet and interview representatives from many prospective preschools at one location, will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Pleasanton Senior Center, 5353 Sunol Blvd.

Administrators and teachers from more than 30 preschools in Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore and San Ramon will be on hand to discuss school programs with parents.

Sponsored by the Valley Children's Museum and the city of Pleasanton, other fair participants include representatives from the Alameda County First 5, Child Care Links and various mothers clubs and other community resources. Zone 7 Water Agency reported that the recent rainy weather has nearly filled Del Valle Reservoir. "We're way ahead of the curve for this time of year," said Dale Myers, general manager of Zone 7. "But we'll need the rains to continue through the spring to ensure a good water year."

The "water year" runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30. Rainfall, and snow in the Sierra Nevada, determine how much water Zone 7 will be able to draw from the Delta to meet Valley demands.

Zone 7 stores local storm water in Lake de Valle and releases it into arroyos where it percolates into the groundwater basin. It is pumped out of local wells to meet water demands. Groundwater provides as much as 40 percent of Valley water during dry summer months.

Free gun locks Free gun locks (January 28, 2005)

The Pleasanton Police Department has received 1,000 firearm safety kits with gun locks through a partnership with Project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearm education program. Kits will be given to residents who request them, free of charge and "no questions asked," and a safety pamphlet is included.

The locks are the cable type that work with a variety of guns. They are being provided to promote safe firearm handling and storage practices to reduce the risk of tragic accidents, especially among children.
