Calendar pictures pocketed

A Pleasanton resident learned that someone had broken into a home in the 300 block of Sycamore Road sometime from Jan. 3-5, causing about $150 in damages while taking property valued at a dollar.

The victim told police he returned to the house about 1:30 p.m. Jan. 5 and noticed items in his house were out of place. Calendar pictures were missing from his dining room wall and a small Ultra-lite bleach bottle was left in the hallway.

Police said the suspect had probably gained entry through the laundry room door, using a 6-inch by 5-inch rock found outside the door on the grass to damage the doorknob. Police also believe the suspect used bodily force to break into the home.

In addition to the missing pictures, a small towel soaked in bleach was hanging on the inside doorknob, police said. No prints were found.

A neighbor reported seeing a small truck or car in the residence's driveway, police said. Vandal with smashing idea

Overnight Jan. 7, an unknown person smashed the window of van parked in the 3600 block of Annis Circle, stealing nothing but causing about $200 in damages.

The victim discovered the break-in about 4:50 p.m. Jan. 8 as he started to drive the maroon 1995 Toyota Previa.

Pleasanton police reported there was a quarter of an inch "flat impression in the middle of the rubber molding on the sliding door on the passenger side."

The victim recalled hearing a neighbor's dog barking about 4:30 a.m., and noted that the dog never barks at that hour.

No prints were recovered from the van, which was too wet, and police said there are no suspects in the crime.
