(January 07, 2005) Bucks and nose ring grabbed
A crook with a nose for cash swiped $1,000 and a $250 nose ring from a vehicle parked in a restaurant parking lot Dec. 31.
Police reported that the victim had withdrawn $1,000 from her bank the day before and put 10 $100 bills in the glove box of her 1988 Jeep Cherokee.
About 6:45 a.m., she and her boyfriend drove to the parking lot in the 6800 block of Santa Rita Road, where she parked and locked her vehicle, police said. Both the victim and her boyfriend went to work. The victim told police she checked on her vehicle about 10:58 a.m. and discovered the cash was missing from the glove box and a nose ring left on the center console was also missing.
She also said she found an empty cigarette package, which had been left on the driver's side of the vehicle, on the front passenger floorboard
Washer snatched
A $500 coin-operated washing machine was carted away from a laundry room in the Las Ventana's Apartments on Vineyard Avenue sometime overnight Dec. 30.
Kelly Madrigal, assistant director for the apartments, reported the theft to police Dec. 31. Madrigal said the washer, owned by Hayward company Web Services, was in the room about 5 p.m., but was discovered missing at 7:30 a.m. the following day.
The suspect cut the hot and cold water hoses as well as the drain hose, police said. Madrigal reported that the laundry room is locked at 10 p.m. and unlocked at 6 a.m. by a security service.
