(January 07, 2005) Got wine art?
The Museum On Main Street is looking for art to complement its show on the local wine industry, opening later this year. The exhibit will take a look at four elements: winemaking, its cultural impact, soil and climate conditions, and labor. The artwork will be displayed on easels throughout the exhibit.
To have artwork considered, submit a jpeg image of the art by e-mail to valleymuseum@sbcglobal.net by Feb. 14. Include the artist's name and contact phone number; title, media and size of the artwork; and the element explored in the artwork. Each artist may submit only one artwork per element, and the Museum Exhibit Committee will make the selections. Artists will be notified of the results in early March. For more information, contact Maureen Morley at 462-3215 or mbmclover@aol.com.
Current exhibits are "Pleasanton: The Wonder Years," which covers the 1950s and the 1960s; and a "Heritage Family Exhibit," with personal mementos from the Koopman-Moller families. They run through March 20.
Admission to the museum, 603 Main St., is a $2 per person requested donation. Call 462-2766.
Parenting class
The Pleasanton Police Department and Amador Valley Adult and Community Education are pairing up for "The Parenting Project," a 10-week class for parents of teens.
Classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, from Jan. 18 to March 22 at the Police Department, 4833 Bernal Ave. The $195 fee includes a textbook. Alisal Elementary School teacher Teresa Le May and police Sgt. Brian Laurence will facilitate the classes.
A program used nationwide, the class will teach parents the skills necessary to help guide teens away from destructive or violent behavior involving drugs and alcohol. The class will also hold discussions on ways to help teens improve school attendance as well as performance. In addition to exercises, participating parents will form support groups that will enable them to continue applying the program after the classes conclude.
For details, contact Sgt. Laurence, 931-5169; to register, call the education center at 426-4280.
