The life and efforts of civil rights leader and activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated this month with a peace march and a prayer breakfast.

A peace gathering and march is slated for 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 17, with participants meeting at the United Christian Church, 1886 College Ave., in Livermore. Sponsored by Tri-Valley CAREs, the event will include music and readings from Dr. King's "I have a dream" speech, and participants will have an opportunity to share their dreams. The program will conclude with a march at 11 a.m., weather permitting, which will proceed through downtown to the Livermore fountain

The following week a prayer breakfast organized by the Tri-Valley YMCA will be held from 7:30-9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 24, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 11950 Dublin Canyon Road. Assemblyman Guy Houston of the 15th District is serving as the chairman of the event's host committee.

This year's breakfast theme is "Your Place is Set at Our Table," and organizers hope to extend a message of unity throughout the Tri-Valley with the fellowship event.
