(December 17, 2004) Ballistics U11 hit with two losses
Ballistic United Under-11 boys played host to two teams in the Nor-Cal Cup on Dec. 5, and suffered a pair of losses.
In the first game, Ballistic faced off with the ACC Mavericks and found the themselves down 0-1 when a poor clearance by the Ballistic's keeper was intercepted and lobbed over his head into the goal.
The bad news continued as the Mavericks scored again when the Ballistic defense failed to clear a cross.
The Mavericks dominated the game, scoring two more goals to bring their lead to 4-0.
Ballistic fought back and their efforts were rewarded when Chris Frazella scored, putting the team on the scoreboard.
Before halftime, another Ballistic score was realized on a direct kick by Marco Neves.
Opening the second half, Frazella scored again and Ballistic found themselves one goal down. Ballistic could not muster an equalizer as ACC scored its final goal, posting a 5-3 win.
Next, Ballistic met up with the Clovis Odyssey Red. Both sides appeared evenly matched in the first 10 minutes. However, it was Clovis who opened the scoring when a ball was chipped into the penalty area and the Clovis striker finished confidently.
Through to halftime, the action was fast, moving quickly from end to end on the field. Determined to pad their lead, Clovis put the pressure on during the second half.
Clovis' winger beat his man and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.
Ballistic fought back gamely but the swarming Clovis defense never allowed them much space.
Ballistic's Michael Viebeck saved a penalty at one stage to keep the team's hopes alive. But he could not prevent Clovis from adding a third goal when his defense failed to clear the ball from the penalty area.
Clovis ran out deserved winners with a score of 3-0.
