Little socks for big hearts
(December 17, 2004) Some 19 women from the Assistance League of Amador Valley met recently to stuff 1,700 envelopes with baby socks for their "Sock It to 'Em" program, asking donors to return the little socks with a check inside. Or they could keep the sock as a memento and just send a check. Funds are used for the organization's many worthwhile projects, which include Operation School Bell, to give backpacks filled with school clothes and a shoe voucher; books for children who have never owned a book before; an incentive program for the teenage mothers and fathers at Horizon High School; and help for the elderly at Pleasanton Convalescent Hospital.
