JoAnne 'Jody' Ojeda

JoAnne Ojeda died Oct. 31 with her family by her side. Born on March 8, 1932, she was a longtime Dublin resident.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Carol Ojeda-Caploe and Tom Caploe, Laura and Ramsey Ismail of Pleasanton, Dan and Celeste Ojeda; four granddaughters, Katie, Alia, Leila and Grace, and a grandson expected Dec. 25.

She was preceded in death in 1997 by her husband, Anthony Ojeda.

The family will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 21, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Livermore, 1893 N. Vasco Road.

Livermore resident Russell Verne Richards died Oct. 25 at Valley Memorial Hospital. He was 87.

Born in Omaha, Neb., on July 11, 1917, he had a 21-year career in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and especially spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Richards; two daughters, Ruth-Ellen Richards of Livermore, and Nancy Meglen and her husband Paul of Pleasanton; a son Daniel Richards and his wife, Sarah Chaney, of Ventura, Calif.; a sister and a sister-in-law; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Former Pleasanton Planning Commission chairman Joseph Antonini died Oct. 29 at ValleyCare Medical Center. He was 90.

Born Dec. 20, 1913, in a two-room house east of Pleasanton, he attended St. Michael Catholic Elementary School in Livermore and graduated in 1933 from Livermore High.

He worked at Hagstrom Foods and managed the Pleasanton store. In the early 1940s, he became an agent with State Farm Insurance Co., building a career in the industry before retiring in 1979.

From 1961-70, he served on the Pleasanton Planning Commission and was chairman from 1966-69. The phrase "Pleasanton - City of Planned Progress" was coined during his commission tenure, as well as the formulation of the city's general plan and the Hacienda Business Park plan.

On July 13, 1941, he married Doris Grana and they lived in Pleasanton until her death in 1984. He remarried on Sept. 30, 1987, to Marie Garibaldi.

A parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church, he enjoyed many hobbies, including restoring antique automobiles and spending time with his siblings at the family ranch east of Livermore.

He leaves his wife Marie; two children and their spouses, Michael and Linda Antonini of San Francisco, Carolyn and John Cardinalli of Pleasanton; a sister-in-law; and four grandchildren.

His grandson Peter Antonini preceded him in death.

A rosary and a Mass celebrating his life were held at St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Former Pleasanton resident David E. Harrell died Oct. 29 at his Tracy home following a struggle with cancer.

Born on Sept. 19, 1926, in Nampa, Idaho, he graduated from Montour High School in 1944. From 1950-1953, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

In 1955, he married Theresa Pothier and they lived in Seattle until moving to Union City in 1957. They also lived in Fremont before moving to Pleasanton in 1992. In 2003, they moved to Tracy.

He owned Buck's Trucks of Newark and ran it successfully for 25 years. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family.

His family and friends will remember his integrity, generosity and lasting smile.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years; his children and their spouses, David and Lillian Marbella Harrell of San Leandro, and DeAnne and Steve Nelson of Tracy; four grandchildren; and a brother.

A Mass celebrating his life was held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Sutter VNA and Hospice of Tracy or to the American Cancer Society. Elsie Hermanson

Longtime Pleasanton resident Elsie B. Hermanson, 82, died in Livermore on Oct. 31.

The California native was born on Jan. 3, 1922, and lived in Pleasanton for 34 years and in Oakland for 48 years.

She graduated from Oakland Tech High and was a homemaker.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family and many friends.

She leaves four children, Bob Hermanson of Sparks, Nev., Gary Hermanson of Alameda, Chuck Hermanson of Pleasanton, and Mark Hermanson of Monterey; two sisters; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her husband of 48 years, Sidney Hermanson, and two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Jane Agnes Hughes died Oct. 31. She was 85.

The San Francisco native was born May 14, 1918. She lived in San Francisco as well as Sunol and Livermore, where she resided for 45 years.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, sewing, knitting and baking.

She is survived by her sons, Cliff, Tom and Greg, and 12 grandchildren.

Her late husband of 46 years, Charles Hughes, was the manager of the San Francisco Water Department in Sunol. He died in 1985.

A Mass celebrating her life was held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Livermore and she was buried at St. Michael's Cemetery.

Former Pleasanton resident Marie Jane Elliott died Oct. 31 in Dublin. She was 96.

Born on Feb. 1, 1908, in Kansas, she married George W. Elliott on Nov. 20, 1926, in Tulsa, Okla., where their four children were born. In 1940, they moved to Southern California.

During the last 25 years, she has made Pleasanton, Dublin and San Ramon her home.

She enjoyed the beauty of the mountains as well as camping and fishing. She also enjoyed Bible study and playing canasta and bridge with her friends.

She leaves three daughters, Jacquelyn Didier of Santa Rosa, Maebelle Hacker of Sylmar, and Donna Faaborg of Dublin; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her husband, her son Richard Elliott and all of her six siblings preceded her in death.

A memorial service was held at St. Philip's Church in Dublin.
