(October 22, 2004) United U11 falls to San Ramon Siege
Ballistic United U-11 team hosted the top-of-the-table San Ramon Siege on Oct. 17 and the two produced a memorable game with San Ramon emerging victorious 2-1.
Playing against the slope in the first half, Ballistic had to weather constant pressure on their goal and went down 0-1 when they failed to clear a corner after just three minutes. They managed to mount sporadic counter-attacks, but despite defensive heroics, from David Grey and Erik Knaggs in particular, Ballistic conceded a second goal before half-time and went in trailing 0-2.
The second half opened with Ballistic dominating play, but with San Ramon looking dangerous on the break. A point-blank save by Toby Harvey prevented the Siege from extending their lead, but Ballistic desperately needed a goal to get back into the game.
They got their wish when mid-fielder Kyle Baker blasted the ball home from 30 yards out, totally deceiving the opposition goal-keeper.
The score led to a frantic last 10 minutes with Ballistic fending off a San Ramon goal. It seemed inevitable that the equalizer would come, but United just ran out of time and San Ramon emerged with a hard-earned 2-1 victory.

The Ballistic defense, led by Evan Sherwood, Brent Cambra, Barry Moore and Carson Kvaternik, effectively shutdown the Fremont attack by aggressive play throughout the game.
Anoop Takhar kept Fremont at bay with his great goal keeping.

Rage U13 overwhelms San Ramon
Powered by a Mariah Worley three-goal "hat trick," the Under-13 Pleasanton Rage girls soccer team defeated 5-0 the San Ramon United.
Ailsa Smith added the more two goals, while leading the Rage in shots on goal with 13.
Utilizing their strong passing attack, the Rage repeatedly pressured the San Ramon goal, mounting a 32-shot attack.
The first Rage goal came in nine minutes into the game when fullback Nazly Bayramoglu passed through to Smith.
Smith crossed the ball left to right, finding Worley's right foot and she scored with a drive to the far post.
The second score was a driving 22-yard shot off Smith's left foot.
Stephanie Belcher set the score up with a slick through pass down the left side to Smith. Two of the other three scores were assisted by Christine Gilbert with the final assist attributed to Samantha Lysaght.
Defensively the Rage controlled the tempo with outstanding team play. Ann Palowitch and Sarah Ramirez played strong in the midfield, consistently pushing the ball wide to forwards Phobe Santos and Cheyenne Murray, who crossed the ball in front of the goal, creating frequent scoring opportunities.
Rage U15 drills Velocity
Brittany Kepke drilled home a pair of long kicks and Megan Gomez added a goal, as the Pleasanton Rage Under 15 Division 3 club blanked the Fremont Velocity 3-0.
The Rage defense, led by Alex Martin and Katie Farthing, needed only a handful of saves from goalies LeeAnn Meyer and Brooke Silva in recording the shutout.
The Rage pressured Fremont throughout the game, breaking the ice with only 10 minutes in when Kepke lifted a 25-yard direct kick from the left side over the goalie's head.
Despite the offensive opportunities, Pleasanton out shot Fremont 11-4 in the first half, the Rage did not get on the board again until the last 30 seconds of the half.
Lindsey Ellison controlled a Velocity clear near midfield, carried the ball forward about 10 yards and hit a high ball into the box. Gomez gained control in a scramble, dribbled past one defender, slightly to the left of center, then went far post for the score and 2-0 Rage lead.
As in the first half, the Rage opened by pressuring Fremont and, with eight minutes into the half, Kepke capitalized again.
Gomez carried the ball down the left side, deep into the box, where she lost the ball to a Fremont defender.
The attempted clear, however, went straight to Kepke in the middle at the top of the box. Kepke controlled and drilled a shot over the top of the goalie's head for the score.
Despite some good chances from Justine Snyder and Angie Macaulay, Fremont kept Pleasanton from any further scoring, but they were unable to get on the scoreboard themselves.
