Quarry Lane opens second campus
(September 03, 2004) School eyes future to include high school
by Teresa C. Brown
Quarry Lane School has opened a third campus - its second in Pleasanton - at 4466 Black Ave., in anticipation of an expansion at its Dublin campus that will include a high school.
"We have a big demand for our schools. We have a waiting list," said school president Dr. Sabri Arac regarding the decision to open a preschool campus on Black Avenue. It will be ready for classes to start on Tuesday.
The Black Avenue campus will be known as Quarry Lane's Pleasanton West, in contrast to its Pleasanton East campus at 3750 Boulder St., and it will house only pre-kindergarten students, ages 2-4, Arac said.
The facility space is being leased from Lynnewood Methodist Church, which previously leased the space to private school Carden West.
The Dublin campus will be expanded to 72,000 square feet and will be opening a high school in two years, Arac said, explaining that Quarry Lane decided it should have the capacity to prepare its students for that new campus.
Construction will begin in June at the Dublin campus on Tassajara Road to build the K-12 school. Currently there is a 13-classroom campus serving grades K-8 at the Dublin site as well as an art studio, computer, multipurpose room, library and administrative offices.
Music is a difference at Quarry Lane, Arac said, explaining that the school emphasizes music by teaching it every day. "We learn that music enhances pre-reading skills," he said.
Arac said the new high school will be completely modern, with an art studio that is state-of-the-art, computer and science labs, and an indoor gymnasium as well as a large library. Outside, the campus will boast soccer fields and tennis and basketball courts.
The tri-level facility is expected to have an enrollment of about 200 high school students, 350 middle school and 450 elementary school students, he said.
Currently there are no changes planned for the school's site on Boulder Street. That 23,000-square-foot facility houses 18 classrooms for infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten and lower school programs.
