Lena Gerasimova Thompson
(August 20, 2004) Lena Gerasimova Thompson, 33, a Pleasanton resident, passed away on July 9 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Tver, Russia, where she grew up, became a physician, and practiced medicine as an obstetrician/gynecologist.
She was an immensely loving and devoted wife and mother, giving up her medical career because she valued her family so much more.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Thompson; daughter Cassy Gerasimova; and stepson Ryan Thompson.
A memorial service was held in Tver on July 13.
William F. Hale
William "Bill" F. Hale died July 26 at his home in Dublin. He was 84.
The Oakland native was born on Oct. 20, 1919. From Dec. 8, 1941, to 1945, he served in the U.S. Army and went to Alaska and Europe.
A 40-year Dublin resident, he had also lived in the San Lorenzo and Oakland area for more than four decades. He was a superintendent at a manufacturing company, where he was employed for 50 years.
A member of St. Raymond Catholic Church, he enjoyed gardening, reading and all sports.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Irene H. Hale; two sons, Carl Hale of Southlake, Texas, and Christopher Hale of Dublin; two daughters, Doris Slater of Pleasanton and Eileen Hale of Modesto; two brothers; one sister; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial celebrating his life was held at St. Augustine Catholic Church and burial was held at St. Augustine's Cemetery.
