Eileen Sperfslage

Longtime Pleasanton resident Eileen Marie Sperfslage died June 5. She was 74.

She was born in Dyersville, Iowa, on July 4, 1929. She taught eight grades in a one-room school in Iowa, and she also assisted in her husband's business, Roy's Firewood. She lived in Pleasanton for 54 years.

A member of St. Raymond Catholic Church, she also loved gardening, flowers, playing cards and animals.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roy J. Sperfslage; a daughter, Kathy Lee Beltran of Dublin; a brother and two sisters; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Graham-Hitch Mortuary. Karmer C. Sansen

Karmer C. Sansen, a two-year Pleasanton resident, died June 8 at Kaiser Medical Center in Redwood City. He was 85.

The Iowa native was born April 29, 1919, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His tour of duty took him to North Africa, Italy and France, and he earned five Bronze Stars.

For 31 years, he was employed as a maintenance machinist.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frieda E. Sansen; his son, Thomas Sansen of Pleasanton; three daughters, H. Faye Dockter of Newark, and Candice Stroop and Dawn Sansen both of Pleasanton; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary. Dorothy Guild

San Ramon resident Dorothy S. Guild died June 11 in that city. She was 87.

Born in Roca, Neb., on June 13, 1916, she resided in San Ramon for seven years and in Santa Monica for 60 years. She was a graduate of the Secretarial College in Lincoln, Neb., and her hobbies included sewing, knitting and cooking. She was active at the First Christian Church.

She leaves two nieces, Christine McSharry of Pleasanton and Diana Zyabey of Texas; a grandniece, Andrea McSharry of Pleasanton; and a grandnephew, Justin McSharry of San Francisco.

A graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif.

Utah native Marjorie Jones died in her Pleasanton home June 18, after a three-year struggle following open heart surgery. She was 78.

Born to Wilford and Ida Jones in Salt Lake City on Oct. 4, 1925, she spent her childhood in Montana and northern Wyoming, graduating from a Lovell, Wyo., high school in 1943. She enlisted in the U.S. Army nurses training program and was discharged when she graduated at the end of the World War II.

She was a nurse in Wyoming and New Mexico, and in 1948, she married her high school classmate Milton O. Jones. In 1951, the couple moved to Albuquerque, N.M., and in 1958, they moved to Livermore, where they lived before moving to Pleasanton in 1967.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an active 4-H leader. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed painting, gardening, photography and entertaining family and friends.

She leaves her husband of 56 years; and four children and their spouses, Kristine and Robert Fonnesbeck, Ruth Kelley, Brenda and Manuel Valdes and Steven Jones; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and burial is at Pleasanton Memorial Gardens.
