(June 11, 2004) Child stable after two-story fall
A 2-year-old child was listed in stable condition after suffering from an accidental fall June 3 from a second-story window at a home on Black Avenue. Police and paramedics responded to the 6:20 p.m. call reporting that a child fell out the window and landed on an asphalt driveway.
The child's grandparent was at the home at the time of the accident; the parents were at work, police said. The grandparent was talking on the telephone when the child, who was standing on a couch in front of a window, leaned against the opened, screened window, police said.
The child was air evacuated to Children's Hospital Oakland for treatment. The toddler suffered fractures to the skull and swelling on the head, police said.
Greasy-glove trunk caper
A vehicle owner stopped by a tow yard to retrieve some personal property from his crashed car June 4, only to discover that a crook had snagged $150 in belongings.
Police reported that the car, which had been in a collision, had been towed to a local tow yard on May 29. On June 4, the car was transferred to a Hayward yard, where the victim discovered that an ice chest, jacket and flashlight had been taken from inside the vehicle's trunk, police said. The victim found a pair of greasy, cloth gloves in the trunk, which did not belong to him. The victim did not know if the theft occurred at the Pleasanton tow yard or at the Hayward yard.
Stealthy garage burglary
A west Pleasanton resident discovered a garage burglary June 2, leaving the owner with a $1,260 loss.
The victim reported to police that he unsuccessfully tried to open his garage door to get his golf clubs about 9 a.m. He entered the garage from the house and found that the garage door emergency release was engaged. After resetting the door, he discovered that his golf clubs were missing. Later than day, he noticed that some backpacking equipment was also missing, police said.
The victim contacted neighbors and learned that one neighbor had seen the victim's garage door open about 11:30 p.m., although the victim had shut the door at 8 p.m.
The same neighbor heard a noise about 1:30 a.m. and looked outside but did not see anything suspicious. Police believe that the noise probably occurred when the garage door fell closed. The victim did not hear anything and found the garage door closed the following morning.
Police said the suspect probably entered the garage through an unlocked side door, released the garage door lock and took property located near the door before leaving.
