(June 04, 2004) David Weir
David Philip Weir died May 21 following a brief illness. He was 58.
Born to Phil and Mary Weir in Chicago on Jan. 19, 1946, his family moved to Hayward when he was 3 years old. As a youth, he was a Boy Scout, achieving the Eagle Scout level, and graduated from Hayward High School in 1963. He went on to graduate from Cal State Hayward in 1967 with a degree in political science.
He was a volunteer firefighter with the Valley Community Service District and began his career as an operational agent for PSA Airlines, where he met his wife, Magee. Other positions he has held include sales manager for Prudential Overall Supply, general manager for Aramark and area manager for Hawker-Trojan Battery. Most recently he worked for 1-800-Buy-Rack.
An avid Cal Bear fan, he also enjoyed cooking, entertaining, reading and was affectionately known as "Encyclopedia Dave." He was a member of the Alisal Lodge #321 and the Aahmes Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years; his mother; a brother, John; two nieces; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Patton; and two sisters-in-law and their husbands.
His father preceded him in death.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., with a reception immediately following at the Weir family home. In the spirit of aloha, Hawaiian attire is requested.

Thomas Van Cleave
Thomas N. Van Cleave died May 15 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Livermore. He was 81.
A Spearfish, S.D., native, he was born on May 4, 1923, to Cyrus and Dorothy Van Cleave and had been a Pleasanton resident for 20 years.
Having served in the U.S. Army, he was a member of the VFW Post 6298. He was employed as a bartender for 35 years and was well known in Contra Costa County. His friendly way will be missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Van Cleave; a stepdaughter, Denise Termini; a sister; three grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
No services were held, and inurnment was at St. Augustine's Cemetery.

Roger Haydock
Longtime Pleasanton resident Roger K. Haydock, 51, died May 19 at ValleyCare Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born on Dec. 19, 1952, in Syracuse, N.Y., he spent much of his childhood in Southern California. He graduated with honors with a masters degree in business administration from St. Mary's College.
In 1976, he began a 23-year career with Bradshaw Inc.-North. He worked his way from an entry-level position to president of the company, a title he held from 1993-98. In 1998, the company was sold to Crossmark Inc. He remained with that company another three years. Most recently, he was a commercial real estate consultant with K. Wayne Rice & Associates Inc.
He had many accomplishments to his name, including being a licensed pilot, a certified scuba diver and a drummer. He enjoyed many hobbies, such as landscaping, golfing and fishing. He loved spending time with his family, watching movies and the television program "West Wing." He was loved and respected by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle; a son, Grayson, and stepson, Bridger Giglio, all of Pleasanton; his mother, Kathryn Chardin of San Jacinto; a sister and her husband, Carolyn and Forrest Ward of Stockton; a godson, Chase Haydock of Pleasanton; and other extended family members.
His father, Francis "Frank" Haydock, preceded him in death in 2003.
A memorial service celebrating his life was held at Trinity Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Oakland Children's Hospital Foundation, 747 52nd St., Oakland 94609, or to the American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York, N.Y. 10038.
