Makeover rage Makeover rage (June 04, 2004)

Shops team up to help one woman find her style

Makeovers are all the rage on TV these days.

Two downtown business owners have caught the bug and are offering a "Not So Extreme Makeover" to one lucky woman, who may be nominated by friends or by herself.

The one chosen by a drawing June 30 will receive two outfits from Me & Emmi, the upscale Main Street boutique, and makeup, haircut and color courtesy of Fusion 3, also on Main.

"There are really so many people out there who do not feel as pretty as they hope to feel," said Karen Dauskurdas, owner of Me & Emmi. "They just need a little help to look as good as they can."

She said she knows many women who looked sharp when they had careers but once they have a family and stop working outside the home, they no longer spend time on their looks.

"Sometimes they just need to put on cute jeans, their hair in a ponytail and a cute pair of earrings," she said.

She noted that any woman who comes into her shop gets help finding the right clothes for her looks and lifestyle. But the makeover will take it one step further. "We want to help them create a self that is livable, maintainable," she said.

"The store is doing pretty good right now and Karen wanted to give back," said assistant manager Kristen Thompson. This will give some woman an opportunity to think about herself and explore how to bring out her best features, she added.

Entry blanks for the Not So Extreme Makeover are available at Me & Emmi, 549 Main St.; and at Fusion 3, 722 Main St. But the form is not necessary, said Dauskurdas. Just send in your name and telephone number plus the name and telephone number of the makeover nominee, and write 50 words or less on why she deserves the makeover. Mail entries to Me & Emmi, 549 Main St. 94566. Or e-mail to info@meandemmi.com. The makeover is planned for Friday, July 9. -Dolores Fox Ciardelli
