Letters Letters (May 07, 2004)

'Wild world' of underwear

Editor,

I just met Carol DiSalvi at her beautiful shop, Lily Ann's. I was actually encouraged to check it out by the advertisement, column and recent letter in your newspaper. I admit, I was pretty curious to see this "provocative" lingerie for myself. For those concerned that their children may be subjected to "scantily clad female" forms, I guess it would be a bit much. After all, she actually sells UNDERWEAR in there....yikes!

As for her "Playboy" type ad in your newspaper, well those folks had better cancel their subscription. Last week's edition contains not only that pornographic ad for Lily Ann's but another ad clearly showing a very sexy pair of woman's legs, and yet another photo of a theater cast showing women in tight bustiers and men with (gasp!) bare chests! What a wild world we live in where people actually have bare skin and wear underwear. I'm sure these offended townspeople must never take their kids to the mall, a beach or, heaven forbid, the local high schools!

I must not be the only one amused by the puritanistic fuss. Apparently, Carol's sales are doing just fine, thank you. When she moves downstairs, it should only get better. And perhaps then those concerned parents can walk by her place once again, as her displays will likely be only on metal hangers and not those incredibly sexy dress forms. I'll definitely shop there again and, as they say, there's no such thing as "bad press"! Good luck, Carol, and I hope you're laughing all the way to the bank. Editor,

Our first Pleasanton Historic Homes Stroll, which we plan to make an annual event, was a great success. We wish to extend sincere thanks to the homeowners who so graciously opened their homes, the docents who generously gave up their time, the florists who donated beautiful flower arrangements, and the Hope Hospice Shoppe personnel who were invaluable in selling tickets. We also want to recognize the Pleasanton Weekly with a special thank you for its wonderful stories that introduced the public to our tour. Your coverage of the event was outstanding. Lastly, thank you to all of the ticket holders. Your support of this event enabled us to donate $14,500 to Hope Hospice. We hope to see all of you again next year.
