(May 07, 2004) Crook makes Windex exit
A bottle of Windex tipped off a resident April 22 to the exit route a crook took after breaking in and stealing $1,885 in property from a home in west Pleasanton.
The resident told police he left his home about 8:15 p.m. and returned less than two hours later, discovering his home had been burglarized. The victim said he found a bottle of Windex in the front doorway, propping the door open.
The unknown suspect entered the home through a kitchen window, police said. After taking a laptop computer from the kitchen table, the burglar went upstairs to a bedroom where watches were taken from a dresser drawer. The victim told police that credit cards, which were left in the dresser, were not taken. Police believe the suspect may have used a pillowcase to carry the stolen property while leaving the home through the front door.
Safe whisked away
A west Pleasanton home was targeted April 22, leaving the resident with a $10,125 property loss when a burglar targeted his home for a hasty theft.
Police said the victim left his home about 6 p.m. and his wife left about two hours later. When the victim returned to the residence about 10:15 p.m., he parked his vehicle in the garage and entered the house through the garage door. Upon entering the house, the victim discovered the rear sliding door was completely open, alerting him to the crime, police said. The victim told police he went upstairs and discovered his safe in his office was missing. The victim said that he and his wife always secure their doors and windows before leaving the home. Miscellaneous property stolen included jewelry, police said.
Garage door of opportunity left open
A garage left open overnight April 29 in north Pleasanton left a door of opportunity ajar for a thief, who slipped away with $1,135 in property.
Police reported that the victim said she had forgotten to close the garage door April 29. About 4 a.m. the following morning, she entered the garage and discovered cabinet doors on the storage unit were open. Upon investigation, the victim realized that a lawn blower, a portable DVD player, a television with VCR player, and ski boots had been stolen from the inside storage unit. Skis and bicycles also stored in the garage had not been removed, police said.
