Schools, city celebrate Earth Day

Pleasanton residents celebrated Earth Day 2004 by visiting Arroyo del Valle on Saturday, where Zone 7 and the city sponsored entertainment that was woven into lesson about taking care of our natural resources. There was also a creek cleanup and groups doing graffiti removal at the Main Street bridge overpass and nearby train trusses.

Schools also sponsored Earth Day events. Kylie Manos, a third-grader in Lori Skoglund's class at Alisal Elementary, was presented a flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol from Sen. Barbara Boxer for her poster, which depicted her interpretation of Earth Day was one of 11 chosen for the honor from 1,820 entries.

Students at Vintage Hill Elementary School celebrated Earth Day by planting 38 dozens flowers in nearly 44 half barrels throughout the campus. -Dolores Fox Ciardelli
