by Jeb Bing

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has tapped Pleasanton businessman Joseph Desmond to serve as the state's new Deputy Secretary of Energy.

Desmond, who has lived in the Mohr-Martin neighborhood for six years with his wife Alisa, is president and chief executive officer of Infotility Inc., a systems integrating company in San Ramon that helps businesses on energy issues. The couple has two children who attend Mohr Elementary School.

Desmond also is co-chair of the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group's energy committee and is a former board member of the National Association of Energy Service Companies. Earlier, he was with Parke Industries from 1991 to 1997, and was a marketing and demand-planning administrator for Taunton Municipal Lighting, a publicly owned Massachusetts utility.

In his new post, Desmond will earn $123,255 a year.

He also has developed several nationally and internationally recognized and award-winning energy management programs during the past decade, efforts that have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Wall Street Journal.

Desmond said he will start his new position in Sacramento on Monday. The family will decide later if they should relocate to the Sacramento area.
