(April 30, 2004) Chamber players welcome students to concert for free
Students are invited to an afternoon of classical music Sunday, performed by the Pleasanton Chamber Players.
"We are admitting children high school and younger for free," explained harpist Dominique Piana, who founded the Chamber players and has been active in the arts scene since moving here three years ago.
The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council is presenting the concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 2, at Valley Community Church, located at 4455 Del Valle Parkway in Pleasanton, two blocks east of Hopyard.
The group of Pleasanton-based musicians will perform established masterworks from the chamber music repertoire: the Clarinet Trio by Beethoven; Introduction and Allegro by Ravel for harp, flute, clarinet and string quartet; and the String Quintet by Dvorak. The program also includes a rarity: Glinka's Divertimento brillante on themes from Bellini's "La sonnambula" for string quartet, bass and piano.
Performers will be Karen Stasko Veca on flute; Joseph Bonfiglio, clarinet; Darcy Van Valkenburgh, violin; Patricia Drury, violin; Betsy London, viola; Lawrence Granger, cello; Mark Drury, bass; Priscilla Carter Granger, piano; Michelle Lin, piano; and Dominique Piana on harp.
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors (62 and over) and free for students (high school and younger). Tickets may be purchased from the Civic Arts Box Office at Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday; by phone at 931-3444; or at www.amadortheater.org. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour before the concert.
