(April 16, 2004) Students' art competes statewide
by Teresa C. Brown
Art by eight Pleasanton students will be among 15 works representing the Peralta District PTA competing for state honors in the California State PTA Reflections program. The Peralta District encompasses all of Alameda County.
The students are William Liu, music, Mohr Elementary, in category K-Grade 2; Ashley Song, visual arts, Mohr, K-2; Carly Krakauer, photography, Mohr, K-2; Theodore Carter, music, Mohr, 3-5; Vivian Lee, visual arts, Mohr, 3-5; Tony Wang, literature, Harvest Park Middle School, 6-8; Robert Jamieson, music, Amador Valley High, 9-12; and Amy Seaver, visual arts, Amador, 9-12.
Winners of the state competition will be recognized during the state PTA convention held May 3-6 in Long Beach. They include Ashley Song, who received the Award of Merit, and Amy Seaver, Convention Display. Work by both students will be displayed at the state convention.
The Reflections program encourages children to explore artistic expression in four categories: musical composition, literature, photography and visual arts. The art competition's theme was "I'm happy when..."
This year is the first time Pleasanton PTA has submitted entries to the district level. Works by 16 students were selected from an original pool of 161 entries that competed at each school site.
