Amador tennis gets long overdue win

In an important East Bay Athletic League softball match-up, Foothill's team shut out a tough Livermore squad 2-0, thanks to a strong pitching effort by freshman Valerie Arioto. Arioto recorded 12 strikeouts, helping Foothill improve their record to 9-2-1 overall, 3-0 in the league. Livermore got their first EBAL loss but maintains a close record with Foothill, at 10-3 overall, 3-1 in league.

Jessica Lau started off Foothill's win with a single and eventually scored when Ashley Coe singled, allowing Lau to run home. In the seventh, Stacey Compton picked up an RBI with a single to left, which scored Nicole Romero who doubled.
Boys Tennis

Amador's tennis team got a long-awaited win over Granada, 7-2, at home Thursday. The Dons' No. 1 singles player Adam Wagner won his match 6-0, 6-1. The No. 2 singles player, junior Nick Quintana, won 6-3, 6-0. The doubles team of Luke Gatten and Will Wang won their match 6-3, 6-0; and John Wang and Richie Vetter won 6-3, 6-3.
Boys Volleyball

Foothill's varsity volleyball team defeated Granada in three games Thursday, improving their record to 11-5 overall, 4-2 in league. Cameron Stuart led with nine kills, seven digs and two aces. Pat Young contributed seven kills and six aces, while Joey Ballesteros had seven kills, with eight digs and three blocks.

Amador fell to California after a tough match in four games, 25-16, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23. Leading the fight for the Dons was Logan Daniels with five kills, 10 digs and four aces. Dan Vernon added 14 digs and five kills, and Jake Boerman had 13 kills and five blocks. Amador's record went to 10-5, 4-2.

The Dons JVs proved the tougher team against California, extending their winning streak to eight. Adam Liu, Allen Yu and Tim Burger anchored the defense with numerous passes to setter Adam Bacal, who delivered clever sets to Matt Jackson and Sami Najm. Alex Zhu contributed solid digs and passes.
Track and Field

Amador's boys track and field team turned in several wins but lost as a team against San Ramon Valley 72-64. Matt Guerrieri finished second in the 100 with a time of 11.5 just 1/10th of a second behind first place. In the 200, Matt Parken (22.5) and Kyle Montgomery (23.0) took first and second, respectively. Parken also won the 400 with a time of 52.1. Ben DeLand won the 3200 with a time of 10:37.2. Discus thrower Alex Massie won with a throw of 134-1, and placed second in shot put with 41-4.

Amador girls fell to San Ramon as well but turned in good wins. Caitlin MacDonald won the 800 with a time of 2:23. Danielle Gwinn put up a good fight in the 1600, finishing second with a time of 5:32.6, followed by teammate Kendall Nemeth in third with a time of 5:46.8. Heather Janovetz won the long-jump with a distance of 15-1, and Jessica Burkhart took second with 14-10-1/2.
