(April 09, 2004) Martin Mardirosian
Martin Mardirosian died March 24 in Castro Valley. He was 84.
Born in Fresno on Oct. 28, 1919, he was a Castro Valley resident for 10 years. Prior to that, he lived in San Ramon for 37 years. He was a teamster for 30 years.
He enlisted in the Merchant Marines under the name Martin Goldberg. Also under that name, he was a former Golden Gloves heavyweight champion and was inducted in the East Bay Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. He was also a member of the St. Bartan Armenian Church in Oakland.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Edith Mardirosian; two sons, Larry Renslow of Pleasanton and Martin Mardirosian Jr. of Modesto; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Bartan Armenian Church, 650 Spruce St., Oakland 94610.
Albert William Hilke
Albert William Hilke, a lifelong Livermore resident, died March 24. He was 96.
He graduated from Livermore High School and from Polytechnic College of Engineering in Oakland. He was a retired carpenter, and he also worked for the Army Corps of Engineers.
A member of the AAHMES (Shrine) Concert Band, he was also a member of the Mosaic Lodge No. 218, the Scottish Rite of Oakland, Foresters and the Carpenters Local Union No. 22.
A sportsman, he enjoyed going fishing with his son, granddaughters and lifelong friends.
He is survived by his son Fred Hilke of Pleasanton; his granddaughters, Lisa Hilke of Livermore and Jennifer Hilke of Pleasanton; and a sister, Dorothy Mello of Livermore.
His wife, Frances Hilke, and a brother preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held at the AAHMES Shrine Temple Event Center in Livermore. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, 95817-2215.
Fred Louis Jarm
Pleasanton resident Fred Louis Jarm died March 28 at ValleyCare Medical Center. He was 85.
Born in Chicago on June 3, 1918, to Louis Otto Jarm and Ida Bertha Hoke, he was a lifelong sports fan and particularly enjoyed baseball and golf. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and built a career primarily in Chicago, where for 15 years, he was a sales representative for Tingstol Co., an electronics manufacturer.
During his last years in Pleasanton, he developed a passion for reading, playing pinochle and growing roses.
His family and friends will fondly remember him for his joy of life, concern for others and engaging smile.
He leaves his daughter, Nancy Goff of Marshall,Va.; three sons, Fred Jarm Jr. of Woodridge, Ill., Robert Jarm of Mount Prospect, Ill., and William Jarm of Pleasanton; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
His son, Thomas Jarm, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held April 13 at the St. Scholastica Church in Woodridge, Ill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Ronald L. 'Ron' Schreiber
Ronald L. "Ron" Schreiber, a 20-year Pleasanton resident, died March 30. He was 59.
Born in Lyons, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 1944, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and for 30 years, he was employed at Xerox.
Among his hobbies, he enjoyed cooking and was an avid golfer. He especially loved spending time with his children and family.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, JoAnn Schreiber; his sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Lara Schreiber of Pleasanton, and Josh Schreiber and Jessica Ituarte both of Livermore; two brothers; two grandchildren; a mother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary and burial is at St. Michael's Cemetery in Livermore.
