'Amazing legacy' over 30 years of service

Brian Swift, 58, Director of Planning and Community Development, will retire in early September after 30 years of municipal government service.

Swift, who holds a law degree from UC Davis, started as an assistant planning aide. He worked in the Planning Department until 1980 when he was named Assistant City Attorney He later served as acting City Attorney until 1985, when he was named to his current position.

During his career, Swift was involved in the development approval process for both Stoneridge Shopping Center and Hacienda Business Park, as well as other business and residential projects, including the Grey Eagle, Kottinger Ranch and Ruby Hill communities.

Swift is married to Karen Swift, who teaches the third grade at Walnut Grove Elementary School. The couple has three daughters. Lily, 23, a Stanford University graduate, and Holly, 20, who attends UCLA, are both alumni of Amador Valley High School. A third daughter Rose, 15, is a sophomore at Amador. Brian Swift and his five brothers and sisters also graduated from Amador.

"While Brian will no longer be working for the city of Pleasanton, he leaves behind an amazing legacy, having been part of the city's growth and development for decades," said City Manager Deborah McKeehan. McKeehan, herself, announced earlier that she will leave her post at the end of the year.
