Parent Prom slated to raise funds for senior ball

by Teresa C. Brown

A Parent Prom at Amador Valley High will give moms and dads a chance to don tuxs, gowns and corsages and take a step back down memory lane.

It's a 2004 fundraiser for the senior class, slated for April 3, explained Rosemary Hosterman, a member of the fundraising committee.

Proceeds will help offset the per-ticket price of the student senior ball planned for Memorial Day weekend. Currently the ball, which is held in San Francisco, is priced at $180 per couple. The committee is hoping to raise $1,500 and combine this with other funds raised to pare down the ball's ticket cost to $120, Hosterman said.

Not holding to tradition, this first Parent Prom at Amador does not have a dress code. "People can come dressed as casual to as dressy as they want," Hosterman said. The event is also open to everyone, she added, not just parents, and "dates" are not necessary.

The Amador Leadership class will provide complimentary refreshments. For a fun twist, the class will "chaperone" the event, she added.

A disc jockey will keep the music playing with tunes spanning several decades, from the 1960s, '70s and '80s, as well as classics by crooners like Frank Sinatra. Among the fun planned are photo opportunities with a classic car as well as drawings.

The prom will be held from 8 p.m.-midnight, Saturday, April 3, in the multipurpose room at Amador, 1155 Santa Rita Road. Tickets are $12.50 per person, or $25 per couple, and are available in advance at the school's office, by calling 460-0696, or at the door.
