Gilpin takes interim director job at PDA

Pleasanton's long-time Director of Economic Development Gail Gilpin has been hired temporarily as interim director of the Pleasanton Downtown Association. She'll be filling in for former PDA executive director Pamela Stoddard Ott, who was hired to take Gilpin's job when she retired last year.

"When I was called and asked to help out while the PDA searches for a new executive director, I couldn't say no," Gilpin said. "The downtown is really the jewel of Pleasanton. It was a major reason why my family and I moved here years ago. From my experience as a city employee, I know it is also the major contributor to the high quality of life that we have in Pleasanton."

Coincidentally, besides trading jobs at least for a few months, Gilpin and Ott have each other's former phone and facsimile numbers, often fielding calls meant for the other. Calling all kindergartners

The school district's annual Kindergarten Round-up, registering students who will be age 5 by Dec. 2, 2004, will be held 3:30-8 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, March 17-18, in the gymnasium at Amador Valley High School, 1155 Santa Rita Road.

Registration is open to current city residents and families with approved inter-district transfers for the 2004-05 year.

Last names beginning with A-L register on Wednesday and those with names M-Z register Thursday. To register, parents must bring original documents proving date of birth, a physician-signed or stamped immunization record and two forms of proof of residency, such as utility bills, lease agreement or escrow papers. Parents are asked not to bring children.

Call the district Pupil Services Department at 426-4290 for additional registration information or for specific proof of residency requirements. Amador soars as legal eagles

The Amador Valley High School team will be going to Mock Trial competition finals after an upset win in Oakland on Tuesday night. The 30-person team, under the guidance of attorneys Tod Gurney and Melinda Garcia, defeated Bishop O'Dowd High. The win advances the team to finals against Piedmont High, facing off at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Oakland Superior Court on 12th Street.
