Checkpoint scores two on Super Bowl Sunday

A drinking and driving checkpoint, held by Pleasanton police with the mutual cooperation of other area law enforcement agencies, scored two arrests on Super Bowl Sunday.

The effort, held by Pleasanton along with Dublin, Livermore and the East Bay Regional Parks police agencies, screened 744 vehicles for drinking under the influence (DUI) violations. From 6:15-10 p.m. drivers passed through the DUI checkpoint on eastbound Stanley Boulevard near Shadow Cliffs and field sobriety tests were administered to 10 drivers. Representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) distributed information packets to all drivers stopped at the checkpoint. Program funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Loan leads to forgery

As a resident applied for a home loan, a $20 forged check written a year ago came to his attention. Police reported that the victim received copies of a credit report following his submitting a loan application. The report noted that a $22.33 check written to Round Table Pizza in December 2002 had been sent to a collection agency. The victim told police the signature on the check was not his. Mirror swiped

The side mirror on a 1987 Honda Accord was ripped off and stolen from a car parked in the 700 block of Main Street in what police believe may have been a deliberate act of vandalism.

The victim reported the missing mirror to police about 3:20 a.m. Jan. 30. The victim said he had parked his two-door vehicle in a rear parking lot about 8 p.m. He returned to his car about 3 a.m. and discovered the mirror had been broken off and was missing. Nothing else was missing from the vehicle and there were no witnesses to the crime, police said. The victim told police he believed it was broken off accidentally; however, police reported that the vandalism appeared to be deliberate. The case was forwarded to investigations.
