Lady Dons out-shoot Foothill in basketball

The Dons (5-0-1) used three second-half goals to beat Foothill (1-3-2) and move into first place in EBAL Boys soccer. Amador struck first at 8:11 as Andrew Amador intercepted a pass in the Falcon defensive end and beat the Foothill goalie for a 1-0 lead. At 17:27 Foothill's Shea Tomlin scored on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1.

At 48:52, Amador's Jarrett Huk converted a Joel Crompton pass to take a 2-1 lead. With an assist from Dylan Curtis, Crompton used his head to zip the ball past the Falcon goalie for a 3-1 lead. But the young Falcons answered back with a head ball goal by Tomlin to make the score 3-2.

Andrew Royer sealed the game for the Dons at 79:23 for a 4-2 final score. The Dons goalkeeper Andrew Gangnuss had three saves and the Falcon's Packy Deenihan had seven.

The Lady Falcons got the win over rival Amador last week 2-0, to move Foothill into second place to end the season's first half. Foothill's Carrie Andrews scored an unassisted goal in the first half and Erin Wylie scored the second goal with an assist from Lauren Cambra. The Falcons' goalie Amanda Lopez had four saves on Amador's three shots. Amador's goalie Erin Murray had nine saves on Foothill's 20 shots on the goal.
Girls Frosh Soccer

Amador's freshmen girls beat a tough Clayton Valley club 2-1. Stephanie Crisostomo scored first with a pass from Angie McCauley. Kim Learned got an assist on the play.

With seven minutes to play, Sam Harper centered the ball to Christina Fromson 30 yards out. Fromson passed to Danielle Payne who chased it down 20 yards from the goal. Payne hit a shot over the goalie's head and into the far side of the net. Brooke Silva and Lauren Guisti were strong in the midfield to help secure the Dons' victory.
Girls Basketball

Amador proved the better shooter Tuesday night, beating rival Foothill 42-39. The win put the Lady Dons into a three-way tie for second with Foothill and San Ramon Valley.

Though Foothill led the game 32-31 at the fourth quarter, a string of three-pointers and free throws put Amador on top to the end. Shawnte King (3 0-0 8) hit a three-point shot to tie the game 37-37 with five minutes to play. Jenna Nicholson scored a free throw for the final score. Foothill's Liz Chan made a final shot but hit the rim as time ran out. Chan was the lead scorer with 16 points while Amador's lead was Sara Vanderhorst with 12.

The Dons (13-6, 4-1) regained a first-place rank in the league Saturday night by beating California 50-40. Amador stepped up the defensive effort in the second quarter, holding Cal to 8 points while scoring 15 to take a 1-point (26-25) half-time lead.

The second half was all Amador as the Dons came out aggressively going up by 11 at the end of the third and extending the lead 50-34 with 4:20 left in the fourth.

Andy Bocian (9 2-3 21), Guillian Guisti (6 0-0 12) and Dan Vernon (2 3-4 8) led the Dons' offense. Guisti had an outstanding game on defense with six blocks and five rebounds.
