Amador's Ripley takes title at Liberty

This week's games marked the beginning of EBAL league play for both basketball and wrestling teams. Last Saturday, wrestlers from Amador and Foothill finished among the top teams in separate tournaments.

Amador freshman Elliott Ripley won the title at the Liberty High tournament after beating the No. 4 and No. 2 seeded wrestlers to reach the final where he beat the No. 1 seed from Los Altos 5-2 in 112-pound weight class.

Foothill wrestler Kyle Foy was the Falcon's single champion at Granada High School's Mat Classic where, as a team, the Falcons finished in fifth place. Foy's 5-1 win came when he beat teammate Steve Rodenkirk in the 171-pound final round. Kevin Randell at 140 and Mitch Evans at 152 finished in second place, and Phil Boyer at 112 finished third with a 12-5 win.
Girls Soccer

The Lady Dons battled defending NCS champion Monte Vista on Tuesday in a game that ended in a draw. Amador controlled the first half and continued the fight in the second half. Goalie Erin Murray made four saves to keep Monte Vista off the board.

Last weekend, Amador went 3-1 in the Tri-Valley Winter Classic, finishing fifth. Jen Mello had three goals for the tournament while Laura Adams, Keely Spillane and Bev Mayer each added a goal.
Girls Basketball

The Lady Falcons won their first league game against San Ramon Valley on Tuesday, 47-44, improving their overall record to 9-5. Scoring leaders for the Falcons were Ngozi Kanu with 12 points and Liz Chan with 11. But all eight team members had scores contributing to their win. Kristine Shreve and Allison McClay scored six points each, Kelly McGlinchy scored four, and Kristen Brophy, Amanda Trebwasser and Courtney Jones each scored two.

After a tough preseason schedule, the freshmen Lady Dons team won big over Livermore Tuesday 70-16 in their EBAL season opener, improving their overall record to 8-4.

"After a two-week layoff the girls were ready to come out and play," said coach Justin Bigler. "We need to play like this every game, and improve game in and game out."

Lead scorers were Ashley Louie with 14 points and Ashley Snyder with 12. Becca David scored eight points, Arielle Chong, Candice Newell and Caitalin Daniels each had six, Sara Reynolds had seven, Toni Nielsen had five, and Lauren Mullaane, Sara Beldin and Jasmine Mann each had two.
Boys Basketball

The Dons closed their preseason with an overtime home loss to Fremont (Oakland) after a hard-fought battle. Senior scoring leaders Andy Bocian and Stuart Yoshida combined for a collective 21 7-8 44 in the 64-59 OT loss. With a 9-5 record, the Dons are considered contenders for the EBAL title along with Foothill and Monte Vista.

Foothill fought off Dublin for a win Saturday 56-48, improving their record to 10-4.

The Falcons led the scoring throughout the game, thanks to leaders Eric Haar with 18 points and Adam Greenaway with nine.
