Alumni meet tomorrow on soccer fields
(January 09, 2004) The first Foothill-Amador Alumni Soccer Games take place tomorrow at Foothill High to benefit the Ryan Gordon Scholarship Fund. The women's game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men's at 7 p.m., featuring players from teams of the '70s through the 2000s. Tickets are $5, and proceeds, including snack bar sales, will go directly to the fund. Ryan Gordon, a 2003 graduate of Foothill High School, was killed in a boating accident shortly after graduating. He played soccer at Foothill for four years and planned to continue in college. The scholarship fund will benefit a graduating member of the Foothill women's or men's soccer teams who aspire to play in college. The San Jose Earthquakes have donated an Earthquake T-shirt autographed by Landon Donovan, one of the biggest names in American soccer today, to help benefit the fund. To bid for the shirt, spectators are asked to write their name and phone number on a $1 bill (or as many $1 bills as they like) and drop the money in a special box at the game. The winner will be announced near the end of the men's game Saturday night.
