George Macfarlane Cloward

George MacFarland Cloward, a 30-year Pleasanton resident, died Nov. 17. He was 71.

He was born in Nephi, Utah, on Feb. 22, 1931. His family moved to Modesto when he was 3, where he attended local schools and graduated from Modesto High in 1949.

He served in the U.S. Army for more then two years and was stationed in Italy for a year. He attended Brigham Young University.

Owner of E-Z Comp Computer Classes, he had also worked for 25 years in the beverage can industry and 15 years as an electrical manager. He taught computer training since 1983 and was an associate member of the Pleasanton Downtown Association as well as active on the marketing committee.

He enjoyed many activities, including hunting, camping, woodworking, writing and photography. Several of his photographs won awards. He was also a member of the Square Circles and Eagle Squares square dancing clubs.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judith Cloward of Pleasanton; three sons, Keith, Bryan and Jason Cloward, all of Pleasanton; two daughters, Jenelle Turner of Bristow, Va., and Michelle Mack of Manteca; two sisters; one brother; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Cloward in 1994 and R.L. Cloward in August 2002.

Services were held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary and burial is at Double Springs Cemetery in Valley Springs, Calif. John Peter Vizzolini

Longtime Pleasant resident John Peter Vizzolini died Nov. 24. He was 76.

Born in Modesto on March 31, 1926, he graduated from Amador Valley High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Residing in Pleasanton for 73 years, he was the owner of Pleasanton Bakery from 1946-58.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus and St. Augustine Catholic Church. For 34 years, he served as trustee for Pleasanton on the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District.

He enjoyed baking, gardening, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years and best friend, Carmel Vizzolini of Pleasanton; his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Fountain of Alamo; his daughters and sons-in-law, Regina and Steve Wright of Tracy, and Lori and Jim Petraglia of Danville; one sister; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church and burial is at St. Augustine's Cemetery. James Frederick 'Jim' Thoele

James Frederick "Jim" Thoele, a 36-year Pleasanton resident, died Nov. 30. He was 77.

Born in Effingham, Ill., on Nov. 2, 1925, he served in the U.S. Army and was a sales and marketing representative for Mennen Co., covering the western United States. He was also a member of the Amador Valley Lions Club of Pleasanton.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Reba Thoele of Pleasanton, and two sons, Greg Thoele of San Jose and Steve Thoele of Pleasanton.

Memorial services were held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary.

Clayton L. Johnson, a 28-year Pleasanton resident, died Nov. 29. He was 69.

Born in Aitkin, Minn., on Nov. 14, 1933, he served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the University of Minnesota. He retired from CIGNA in Fremont after 33 years as a claims specialist.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna Johnson of Pleasanton; his daughter, Jennifer Johnson of San Ramon; and a sister.

Funeral services were held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary and burial is at Pleasanton Memorial Gardens.
