by Teresa Brown

Amador Valley High School will hold a multi-celebration Friday, Oct. 25, commemorating 80 years of education in Pleasanton. The celebration coincides with the school's homecoming activities.

A reception, "Eighty Years of Excellence," will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. on the campus quad. Joining in the celebration will be Mayor Tom Pico; school Superintendent John Casey; Sheila Jordan, Alameda County superintendent; City Council members; school board trustees; and Chamber of Commerce members.

Alumni representing past graduating classes will also join the festivities, including special guest alumni Irene Pons from the 1927 graduating class.

The event also marks the grand opening of the new library and media center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and it will celebrate the National Blue Ribbon Award recently received by Amador. Plus it will recognize the Pleasanton Unified School District's 2002 Teacher of the Year, Debbie Emerson.

Amador graduated its first class of eight students in 1923. Through the years the school has grown. Last year, approximately 1,900 students attended Amador.

All alumni and former school employees as well as the public are invited to join next week's celebration. For details, call Ann Brady at 461-6150.
