(March 29, 2002) Eugene R. Rega
Memorial services were held last week at the Presbyterian Church of Pleasanton for Eugene R. Rega, a former City Councilman, who died March 12 as the result of a single car accident near Garberville in Humboldt County, where he owned a ranch. He was 68.
An Illinois native, he graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and moved to Pleasanton in 1958. He served on the Planning Commission from 1961-1967, and was elected to the City Council in 1966, making him the youngest man at that time to serve on the Council, and served until 1970. He also was in the police reserves, president of the Pleasanton National Little League and chairman of the Pleasanton Junior Football League.
After graduating from college, he served in the U.S. Army Artillery as a 2nd Lieutenant and as a captain in the Army Reserves until 1967, the same year he was named one of the "Outstanding Young Men of America." He worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as an assistant division head in electronic operations before retiring to his ranch in 1978.
Survivors include his daughters Lisa McCloud of Pleasanton and Kathy Hayden of Scotts Valley; sons Chris Rega and Joshua Kirtley, both of Garberville; a sister, Joyce Rogers of San Leandro; and two grandsons, Michael McCloud and Ryan Hayden. Another son, Kevin, preceded him in death. Interment will be on his ranch.
Nina C. Bonde
Nina C. Bonde, a Pleasanton resident for more than 75 years, died Jan. 20 in Missoula, Mont. She was 89.
Born on March 8, 1912, in Raymond, Wash., she was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She and her late husband, Hans Bonde, custom-baled hay and farmed in the Tri-Valley area.
She is survived by her sons, Frank Bonde of Missoula and Hans Bonde Jr. of Acampo; five grandchildren, Linda Cardoza of Manteca, Janet McElley of Pleasanton, Susan Sherwood of San Ramon, Kim Bonde of Livermore and Jim McOwen of Santa Ana; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and two sisters, Caroline Henningsen and Josephine Stephens.
Family and friends are invited to attend a vigil at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 3999 Bernal Ave.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, also at St. Augustine. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception in her honor following the interment.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Emma Buonlamperti
Emma Buonlamperti, a life-long resident of Pleasanton, died March 13. She was 90.
Born in Pleasanton, she graduated from Amador High School and had many friends.
She is survived by her caretakers and special friends, Donald DeMarcus and Irene Huntsinger.
Her husband, Carlo Buonlamperti, preceded her in death in 1991.
A Mass was celebrated at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.
Richard Dennis Bourne
Richard Dennis Bourne died March 14 at the age of 75.
A native Californian, he was born in San Rafael in 1927. He was a World War II and Korean conflict veteran. He was a chief in the U.S. Coastguard and he retired from the U.S. Navy and the city of Fremont.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Bourne of Fremont; his children, Glen Bourne and Terri Bonilla, both of Pleasanton, and Gregg Bourne of Livermore; two daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; a sister; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A memorial was held in Livermore.
Moease 'Edie' Caudill
Moease "Edie" Caudill, a 60-year Pleasanton resident, died March 20. She was 80.
Born Sept. 17, 1921, in Melrose, N.M., she was a homemaker for 65 years.
She is survived by her sons, Arnold Caudill of Yorba Linda and Ronald Caudill of Santa Ana; a daughter, Carolyne Doyal of Valley Springs; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, John Rambo.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thurmon Caudill, in 1995.
Burial was held at Melrose Cemetery in Melrose, N.M.

Manuel Almeida
Manuel Almeida, an 18-year Pleasanton resident, died March 20. He was 64.
Born on April 13, 1937, in Portugal, he was the owner of Almeida & Son Painting in Pleasanton from 1985-1998. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Adelina Almeida of Pleasanton; a son, Dennis Almeida; a daughter, Cindy Almeida-Baker; two brothers; one sister; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial was held at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.
