Jeep mangled during burglary
(December 14, 2001) A 1998 Jeep Wrangler suffered at least $1,000 in damages when the vehicle was burglarized Dec. 10 in the Macy's Furniture Store parking lot in the 4200 block of Rosewood Drive, according to police reports. The burglary also involved the loss of $1,300 in items belonging to the vehicle's owner, Elizabeth Hardtke-Smith, 46, of Livermore, police said.
Hardtke-Smith told police that she had left her car locked in the store's parking lot at approximately 7:15 p.m., according to the report. When she returned, she saw her vehicle had been burglarized.
The police report indicated that Hardtke-Smith's car stereo, a CD changer and her cellular telephone had been taken. The report also said that the vinyl passenger window of the Jeep Wrangler had been torn and the lock on the rear door had been pried and broken.
Police said that they were unable to recover any usable fingerprints from the vehicle.

(December 14, 2001) When Erica Garcia, 19, of Patterson left her accounting job at the Pleasanton Wal-Mart store on Rosewood Drive on Dec. 10, she discovered that her passenger car window had been smashed and her purse stolen.
According to the police report, Garcia told police that she had parked and locked her car in the Wal-Mart south lot at approximately 10:30 p.m. and found it burglarized when she left the store at 1:20 a.m.
Garcia told police the only items in her purse were her license, her Social Security card and a cellular telephone battery.
Police are unsure who may have burglarized the car and found no witnesses or fingerprints.
The total value of the items lost was listed in the police report as $40. The damage value was listed as $2,000
