(January 26, 2001) Steven Michael Juracich
Steven Michael Juracich, a resident of Pleasanton and native of San Jose, died Jan. 10 at the age of 52.
He worked for 29 years as a member of Roofers Local 81 in Oakland. He collected coins and was also an avid collector of John Wayne and Elvis Presley memorabilia.
He leaves his companion Joyce Tafoya of Pleasanton; son Christopher Juracich of Robinson, Ill.; step-mother Loraine Juracich of Hayden Lake, Idaho; brothers Terry Juracich of Destin, Fla., Vincent Juracich of Hayward, and Joseph Juracich of Higley, Ariz.; sister Angela Juracich of San Clemente, Calif.; and numerous nephews and nieces. His parents Patricia and Samuel Juracich preceded him in death.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Jan. 20 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Pleasanton. Burial is at St. Augustine's Cemetery in Pleasanton.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Liver Foundation, One Sansome St., Suite 2100, San Francisco, CA 94104.
Josephine 'Pat' Munn
Josephine "Pat" Munn, an eight-year resident of Pleasanton and native of Texas, died in her home Jan. 11 at the age of 73.
Formerly a 24-year resident of Salinas, she was a huge fan of local sports.
She leaves sons Greg Munn of Pleasanton, and Marty Munn of Rocklin; sisters Kay Walker of San Angelo, Texas, Erlene Sims and Unita Warnick of Kermit, Texas, and Joanne Cross of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service was held Jan. 21 at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton. Burial is in Kermit, Texas.
Helmut 'Hal' Bruns
Helmut "Hal" Bruns, a seven-year resident of Pleasanton, died Jan. 13 at the age of 61.
A native of Germany, Bruns worked for seven years at Micro Dental Labs.
He leaves a mother, Elfride Bruns of Braunschweig, Germany; daughters Christina Bruns of American Fork, Utah, and Andrea Vickery of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sister-in-law Kay Bruns of L.A.; and a nephew and niece. He is preceded in death by his brother Herbert Bruns.
A memorial service was held Jan. 20 at Graham-Hitch Mortuary. Burial is at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina, Calif.
Th family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 7000 Village Parkway, Suite L, Dublin, CA 94568.
Adelfa Cortez
Adelfa Cortez, a 56-year Pleasanton resident and a native of Mexico, died Jan. 17 at the age of 93.
She owned and operated one of the first Mexican restaurants in Pleasanton. She also owned and operated the Pleasanton Cab Co. with her husband Manuel Melo Cortez, who preceded her in death in 1984. One of her many hobbies was maintaining her favored cactus garden.
She leaves sons Raul Cortez of Atascadero, Calif., Robert Cortez of San Jose, Richard Cortez of Pleasanton, and Rudy Cortez, also of Pleasanton; brother Oscar Chapa of Stockton; sisters Estella Spaulding, Elia Valdez, Aurora Lozano and Dora Villarreal, all of Stockton.
No services were held, and the burial was held privately.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 330 Distel Circle, Suite A, Los Altos, CA 94022.
