Bonus Blog ? Why I hate Halloween!

Uploaded: Oct 31, 2014
When I was a kid I loved Halloween. I could dress up as a cowgirl or a princess or even an adult. One year I went as an old lady and even fooled one of my neighbors, whose eyesight wasn't too good I must admit.

Now I buy bags of candy to give away but wind up eating half of them myself, which I shouldn't. I expected the usual toddlers with parents at 5 pm. Time went by and no toddlers. I kept eating the candy but no one knocked on my door until 7:15 pm.

One of the mothers said I should have put my pumpkin, which I had by the door, at the front of the walk. Is that the new Halloween protocol? I had my front door light on and the pumpkin by the door. That always worked before. It's not as if I want to be bouncing up and down to answer the door every five minutes.

Around 8 pm a group of parents came over and told me the neighbor's dogs were out and the gate was broken. These are new people who moved next door about three or four months ago. I have briefly met them twice. I knew they have a dog, but the dog I saw wasn't the dog I knew. This dog looked something like a skinny German Shepherd. The other dog is a black terrier type, but I didn't see it out.

The people who came over for me to do something said the black dog ran up the street. I didn't know what to do, but I went over and tried to get the Shepherd type dog to go into the gate. He wouldn't go in but scratched on the garage door.

I went into my car to get my garage door opener, but it didn't work on their garage door. I didn't think it would but I gave it a try. Then the owners came to the front door. They said the dog got out of the gate on the other side, which is the one that is broken.

The man smiled and was pleasant, but his wife kept saying "Thank You" in that tone that means "Go away, we don't need your help."

I think the strange cat that has been in my yard might be theirs too. She probably comes into my yard to get away from the dogs which bark a lot. That's the cat that upset my cats and resulted in me getting scratched and bitten.

When I got back home, I closed up my house to Trick and Treaters. I shut off the outside lights and Living room lights and am here in my office writing up my frustrations.

I still have too much candy left, mostly chocolate which causes me to break out in a rash. I stopped eating chocolate for 15 years, but I caved-in in the face of mini-Mars Bars and Snickers. Next year it's back to raisins and Wrigley's.
