Update on my Accident

Uploaded: Feb 2, 2013
I wanted to add some new information about my accident that I received from Police Officer Troy Montemayor. I was literally spun around in a circle so my car wound up on the North side of Bollinger Canyon Road. Here's Officer Montemayor's description. I didn't remember the airbag being so big.

Your left front wheel assembly and fender took most of the impact. There was a secondary impact as both vehicles began to spin and the left rear fender area on your car was hit. From there, your car spun so you were facing west in the westbound lanes and made a large arc and rolled up onto the north sidewalk adjacent to the park. The other vehicle was a Ford Expedition.

That's about the average size of the side curtain airbags – they're usually about the size of your side windows. They're designed to protect the head and torso from either hitting something inside your vehicle or an intruding part of the other vehicle.

I'm attaching the photo of my car after the accident. I'm very impressed with the Ford Motor Company's engineering staff!

Officer Montemayor will have his Police Report completed next week. I'll report on my stay at San Ramon Valley Regional Medical Center early next week too.

"I'll have my report finished this afternoon and it should be available early next week. You can get a copy of it by calling the records department at 925/973-2700. If you explain to them that you were badly injured and unable to get around, I believe they'll mail you a copy so you can save a trip. Again, feel free to call or email me if you have any questions. I hope you start to mend and feel better.
Troy Montemayor"

Officer Monetmayor also emailed me the name and address of the person who ran the light. I won't put his name here, but he's 18 and is a student at Cal State Fullerton. He was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition. Some recent Cal High graduates may know who he is. He has been charged with Felony Drunk Driving.

It is clearly a miracle that you did not sustain much more serious injuries in this crash, Roz.

I do not know what more we can say, or do to remind people that drinking and driving is illegal and deadly. This young man is very lucky that both you and/or he didn't receive fatal injuries. Gratefully, you both are okay.
