Landslide damages water main, stops water service
Pleasanton Ridge, Sunol residents affected
A major water main damaged last Friday on the Pleasanton Ridge as a result of a landslide halted water service to 160 customers. It was repaired by Monday.
The outage affected residents in upper Kilkare Canyon, which runs from the Pleasanton Ridge to Sunol. Several homes on upper Longview Drive were also affected as well as a number of homes at the end of Santos Ranch Road to the north and south.
Although crews put a temporary bypass in place overnight, warnings of possible contamination caused users to both reduce the amount of water they used over the weekend and to avoid drinking it.
Tests conducted Monday showed that the tap water was safe to drink.
Storm damage also included felled trees, including several oaks on Kilkare Road in Sunol that caused the street to be closed while crews removed the trees.
