Teen advisor speaking to kids and parents - separately

Bookmark and Share
Educator and online advisor Annie Fox will be at the Pleasanton Library on Wednesday speaking to teens and their parents in separate sessions.

She will talk to teens only from 4-5 p.m. about "Real Friends vs. The Other Kind," and lead a discussion about what it means to be a friend and how to cope with changing relationships. Snacks will be provided, and three students will win books from her Middle School Confidential series. Fox is also the author of "Too Stressed to Think? A Teen Guide to Staying Sane When Life Makes You CRAZY."

Also Wednesday evening, from 7-8:30 p.m., Fox will talk to parents of kids in grades 5-12 on "21st Century Kids Need 21st Century Parents." This presentation will include a discussion about tuning into a child's emotional and psychological development and exploring the role that stress plays in a child's academic and social success. The discussion will also help broaden the definition of parental "success" and talk about the art of compassionate listening to turn parent-teen relationships from combative lectures into productive dialogues. Fox says it's possible to "lighten up and enjoy your child's adolescence."

Both programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call Teresa Parham, 931-3404.
