Letters: Candidate funding

Dear Editor,

The Pleasanton Council Candidate's financial reports tell us a lot about the candidates. Jerry Thorne and Cheryl Cook-Kallio received $12,000 to $13,000 in funds during the last reporting period, while their challengers had not yet collected anything. The most telling information is who the donors were: the attorney representing the Lins who have repeatedly filed lawsuits against the city of Pleasanton to force their development upon us, and developers and developer-interested parties.

Their challenger, Karla Brown, is a grassroots candidate who was co-chair of the committee to defeat of the Lins' Oak Grove development. She is receiving support and funds from the residents of Pleasanton. She is the candidate that you can count on to represent your interests as a citizen of Pleasanton. The mayor of Pleasanton had a large campaign fund from which she paid out $5,000 to a campaign consultant. She may put out some slick mailers, but don't be fooled. Her challenger, Cindy McGovern, is the citizens' candidate. She voted against the Lins' Oak Grove development from the beginning and has consistently represented the interests of the residents of Pleasanton as a councilperson. Let's stand up for our interests as residents of this beautiful city and support the citizens' candidates, Cindy McGovern for mayor and Karla Brown for City Council.

I find this letter misleading. The Lin's attorney, Marty Inderbitzen, is a long time Pleasanton homeowner and has his legal office in Pleasanton. By living in Pleasanton, he has an interest in City government and is not some outsider. From the campaign disclosures, it looks like he contributed only a couple hundred dollars of the total, less then 2% of the total reported.

Further misleading is that at the time these required disclosures were filed, the other two opponents had not announced their candidacies, and therefore would NOT have collected any contributions.

Misleading is politely putting it mildly ! ! What arrogance about representing my interests...angers and sickens me. ...knothing quite likek a pushy dame.,giving us all a bad name.

These 2 whinners are crying about the rules... they *3@!A&# knew damn well when they were entering the races and who had done what. Like girls with their big panties on, they entered the race as knowing informed adults...their CONFIDENCE was SO EXTREME their adult decision was to charge ahead ! ! Chin up !

Karla Brown is not representing my interests. She and her special interests have cost this city thousands of dollars that could be used much more productively. She is for taking away property owners rights. There is no way I will be voting for a candidate who supports NIMBY attitudes.

Not now. Not ever.

Selfish, divisive, NIMBY's. That is my opinion of McGovern and Brown.

I find it very sad that Margo Tarver, the ex-wife of our esteemed, now-deceased, former mayor, Ben Tarver, would trade on his good name, especially for these two unworthy candidates. Shameful.
