Alexandra "Sandy" English
Alexandra (Sandy) English, a 23-year resident of Pleasanton, passed away June 18 at the age of 63. She was born Sept. 20, 1946 and is survived by her mother, Zora Radonich; aunt Olga Swartz; sister, Tina (Bruce) Craver; son, Jeffrey English and daughter, Cynthia English; nephew, Brandon Craver and niece Ashley Craver; granddaughter Emma Rose, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Alexander "Lefty" Radonich.
Ms English was born in San Francisco and was an avid 49'er fan. She loved shopping, decorating, traveling, trips to Tahoe and Reno, crossword puzzles, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Friends are invited to attend a wake service Tuesday, June 22 at Santos-Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro. Funeral service celebrating her life will be Wednesday, June 23. Please call the mortuary for service times. Burial will be private. Kenneth Harold McGill
Kenneth Harold McGill, a resident of Pleasanton for 26 years, died June 14 at the age of 90. He was born to John F. and Cloma M. (Gurwell) McGill on August 30, 1919 in Meridian, Idaho. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1937 and joined the Army in 1941 serving in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany during WWII. After the war he returned to Meridian and met and married Althea M. Jolley in 1947. Three children were born to the couple - a boy and 2 girls. He returned to active duty military service in 1952 and served tours of duty in France, Korea, the Dominican Republic and several locations across the United States. Col. McGill retired in 1967 and moved to Chula Vista, CA and began a new career with the VA. He retired again in 1984 and moved to Pleasanton.
Col. McGill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, 3 sisters - Beulah McGill, Mildred Pottinger and Lola Zinn and 6 brothers: John; Warren; Ivan; Wilmer; Leonard, and Earl. He is survived by his loving 2 daughters and sons-in-law - Marsha and RJ Grimes of Pleasanton, CA and Donna and Bill Gordon of Sonora, CA, grandson, Ken Grimes, granddaughters, Katie Grimes, and great-grandson, Kole Grimes of Pleasanton and a granddaughter Emmy Grimes and friend Curtis Milioti of Imperial Beach, CA.
He was interested in many things. An outstanding athlete, all star basketball player, expert marksman, archer, and professional boxer, he enjoyed riding his Harley in his youth and enjoyed all kinds of music. Col. McGill was an avid reader, a poet and a stimulating conversationalist. He loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
Services were held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton at 10:00 Tuesday, June 22, 2010, followed by military honors and burial at Sacramento Valley VA Cemetery.
